Kristen Veltmeyer is a qualified English, Learning Support and Special Needs teacher. 2014 saw Kristen launching her home-based teaching business, “Sunshine Education Station”. Kristen tutors English, Primary Maths, Assignment Writing, Drama, SOSE and most Humanities. She is also the Program Facilitator for our social skills and life skills programs.
From 2010-2013 Kristen taught as a Special Needs teacher in private practice psychology clinics include Centre for Positive Change (with Dr. Sally Lock), Spectrum Psychology (with Natasha Hutchison) and Aspergers Services Australia in Virginia, Brisbane.
This work gave her a greater understanding of working with learning difficulties and special needs. Kristen also undertook training to become a qualified facilitator of several life skills programs. These assist learners with friendship skills, emotional regulation and sensory processing. The programs include Alert, Funfriends, Friends for Life, Secret Agent Society, My friends Youth, Strong Not Tough (Year 11 &12) and Strong Not Tough Adult.
From 2007-2010 Kristen taught High School English, SOSE, Drama and Religion contracts in both public and private schools. Some of these include Maroochydore SHS, Bribie Island SHS, Coolum SHS and St. John’s College. It gave Kristen a good understanding of the schooling system and this knowledge helps in her teaching practice.
Along with mainstream learners, she specialises in working with children with Aspergers, high-functioning autism, ADHD, anxiety and depression and Intellectual Impairments. Kristen is always open to learning more. She often says that the students teach her just as much as she teaches them!
